This Issue's Wonder Woman: Amber Hinds

Amber Hinds is the CEO of Equalize Digital, Inc., a company specializing in WordPress accessibility and maker of the Accessibility Checker plugin. She is the lead organizer of the WordPress Accessibility Meetup, board president/co-lead organizer of the WordPress Accessibility Day conference, and participates in the WordPress core accessibility team.

What is your mantra?

Is this going to matter next year? I strive to live intentionally. This mantra helps me decide what to focus on (big-impact things) and what to ignore or not get worked up about (something you're unlikely even to remember years from now). It's important to keep things in perspective.

Tell us 3-5 tech tools that you swear by that make life & work a little easier.

#1, hands down, is Basecamp. Basecamp is a project management tool I use for business and life. Also never going away is Google Calendar and my own Accessibility Checker plugin, that we built to make our own accessibility testing for clients way easier and more affordable.

What's in your mug/glass/bottle during work hours?

Earl Grey tea with a splash of oatmilk and no sugar.

What's in your mug/glass/bottle after hours?

A craft beer! Usually a stout or something full-bodied. Occasionally a bourbon.

Knowing what you do now, what advice would you give to your younger self?

Knowing how much I love web dev, I'd tell my college-aged self to try a computer science course. I discovered coding years after getting a degree in philosophy. I'd be further along if I had realized I liked CS earlier. My lesson from this is to expose my kids to as many different things as I can.
